Festival of Literature 2023 Student work

Franklings: Project is a co-curricular opportunity for PLC Sydney students to extend their literary interests and work on a project of their choice. We started at the beginning of Term 3 with a whole-day writing workshop facilitated by Dr Drayton. Another project opportunity was iTell, digital storytelling, which was delivered in the library as a series of workshops. Students continued to work on their own with Dr Drayton's, Dr Sukovic's, and Ms Small's guidance. They are proud to present the results of their work at the Festival of Literature 2023.

Franklings: Writing

For Franklings: Writing students participated in a full day Creative Writing workshop followed by sessions in the regular Franklings: Writing club to further refine their writing and ideas.

Letters by Amelia Boyle (Y8)
This is a small collection of letters depicting the romance between a World War Two soldier and his wife. These letters span from the husband's original stationing at Pearl Harbour to the inevitable attack on the American Soldiers.
A Kaleidoscope of Dreams by Amelia Walsh (Y7)
A collection of twelve vignettes based on a dream I had about creatures called ‘cloud-angels’. This was also inspired by Philip Pullman’s ‘lantern slides’ in one of my favourite books, 'His Dark Materials' as well as a collection of all of them in 'The Imagination Chamber'.
Nostalgia: The process of translation by Angelina Wang (Y9)
This example of translation will show the original Chinese poetry, an official translation, a Google Translate translation, and a translation from an ESL Chinese native speaker (myself), though not in this particular order.
Origami by Faye Chen (Y7)

Suzuki Gami is what we would call perfect - she has it all. The face, the money, the friends. But she has one single flaw no one knows about - her extremely psychotic nature. Unluckily or luckily, Sato Ori ends up falling in love with her, like many others do. Their story will bring many surprises, and possibly tears.
Water poems by Liberty Aufflick (Y7)
A collection of poems on the theme of water. They are all from different locations that Liberty has been to and that have shaped who she is today.
In September for Eight Days by Victoria Chan (Y9)
Haibun in 3 parts.
Traditional haibun combined a passage of prose and a closing haiku, though the haibun form has morphed a little and has more recently been used to describe works that feature a prose passage and a brief poetic accompaniment.

iTell Digital Storytelling 2023

iTell is a Digital Storytelling project created by Dr. Suzana Sukovic, giving students the chance to combine storytelling and creative reading with sound and images. Students who participated in iTell 2023 are in Years 7 and 8.
